Digital Design Academy is a comprehensive course designed for high school students interested in exploring the exciting and rapidly growing field of visual and web design. Over the course of two terms, you will learn the fundamental principles and techniques of graphic design, as well as website and app design.

Learn essential software tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Webflow, and more. Our experienced instructor will guide you through hands-on projects and real-world scenarios, helping you develop the skills and knowledge needed to create compelling designs, user interfaces, and products.

What to expect

Term one will be focused on learning the fundamental principles of graphic design and essential software tools, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students will have opportunity to explore everything theses programs have to offer as well as collaborate and work on projects with other students.

Term two focuses on exploring either web design or video production, including creating user interfaces, layouts, videography and editing techniques. Students will the choice to focus on website design or video production for a personal project.

Program Objectives

The main objectives of this program are to:

  • Understand the principles of design and how to apply them to various digital media projects
  • Learn how to use essential software tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Permier
  • Develop your skills in web design, including creating user interfaces and layouts for digital media
  • Learn the fundamental principles of video production, including camera operation, lighting, sound, and editing techniques
  • Gain valuable skills and knowledge that can be applied in a variety of fields, including business, marketing, and advertising
  • Collaborate with peers on design projects and receive constructive feedback from instructors
  • Gain insight into various careers in graphic design and related fields
  • Explore individual talents and gifts
  • Appreciate talents and gifts in others
  • Build personal resilience by focusing on goals and achieving success
Student Projects

Throughout this course, students will have the opportunity to work on various projects that will allow them to apply the concepts and techniques they learn in class. These projects are designed to help students develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and technical abilities.

Students will work on individual and group projects throughout the course, ranging from designing logos and branding materials to creating user interfaces and layouts for websites and apps. By the end of the course, students will have developed a strong foundation in graphic and website design concepts and be equipped with the tools and techniques needed to continue their growth.

Grading Policies

As a homeschool enrichment program, we do not issue grades or credits. However, we believe that feedback is a critical aspect of the learning process in design. Therefore, we will provide regular feedback and support to help students refine their skills and improve their work.

This feedback will come from both the instructor and peers, and will be focused on staying fun while helping students achieve their full potential. We encourage students to approach this course with a growth mindset and to see feedback as an opportunity to learn and improve their design skills. By providing constructive feedback, we aim to create a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

Cost (it's completely free)

There is no cost to the parent or student because this class is a program of the Colorado Homeschool Enrichment.

CHE
is a publicly funded program to benefit homeschooled and private school students with programs to enrich their standard course load. All students must enroll with CHE in the summer to be prepared to start the program in the fall. Eligible students must NOT be enrolled in any other publicly funded program at the time of enrollment.
